Obituary

Edmund G. Klepps, 98, of Terryville, husband of the late Alma (Wondrovski) Klepps of over 65 years, died Tuesday (Jan 8, 2013) at Vitas Hospice at St. Mary's Hospital, Waterbury. Edmund was born Feb. 5, 1914 in Terryville, CT. He was the son of the late Adolph & Caroline (Miller) Klepps. Edmund graduated from Terryville High School Class of 1932, joined the U.S. Navy in 1935 and was discharged Feb. 11, 1946 as a Chief Warrant Officer receiving a Navy Unit Commendation Medal and eight battle stars. A veteran of WWII, his ship was torpedoed in Pearl Harbor (U.S.S. Helena) was repaired, then sunk north of the Guadalcanal during a night battle. He worked for the Wallace Barnes Co. in Forestville for nearly 29 1/2 years in charge of boiler room after the war. He resided in Forestville nearly 40 years. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Bristol, member of the Lutheran Laymen's League, the AARP, the American Legion, the Pearl Harbor Attack Veterans and the Pearl Harbor Survivors Assoc. He is survived by his daughters, Nancy Mitchell and her husband Frederick of Terryville, Diane Finger and her husband Rudolph of Terryville; his four grandchildren, Frederick Mitchell III, Kenneth Martin Finger, Laura Ann Bartlett and Barbara Jean Michaud, he also leaves eight great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. Funeral services will be held Saturday (Jan. 12, 2013) 11:00AM at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Bristol with military services to follow. Burial in the spring will be in Hillside Cemetery, Terryville.
